Is your motivation to get fit waning? No worries, we’ve got you – and we hope you’ve got us.  Join us in raising money for our fund, Hale Ka Po’e Keiki (Homes for Children) to help us end family homelessness on Hawai’i Island, by participating in our Virtual (walk the miles, not the actual route) Pilgrimage With the Unhoused 2024.  This year, our route takes us past several ancient Hawaiian sites from Pu’uhonua ‘o Honaunau (Place of Refuge) in Kona, to the birthplace of King Kamehameha I in Kohala, a total of 77.2 miles.  The timeline for completing the virtual pilgrimage is from February 28 to April 8, 2024.

What to do to participate?
  1. Grab a participation packet from participating church offices.  Each packet will contain a donor information sheet to help you keep track of who promised to donate to you, a flier about the pilgrimage, and a printed map to help you keep track of your progress.
  2. Before leaving, sign the registration form at the church office so we know who is participating.  You will receive a certificate when the pilgrimage is completed. Packets should be available at church offices by Friday, February 16, but no later than Monday, February 19.
  3. Ask your friends and family to sponsor you through your journey by donating money (per mile, or one lump sum) and record their info on the donor information form provided. Checks should be made out to Interfaith Communities In Action, or ICIA.
  4. Join us, if you are able, at our general membership meeting at 7:00 p.m. at Community of Christ, 1842 Kinoole St, Hilo, for the kick-off of the pilgrimage.  At the meeting you will learn about the Kuamo’o Battlefield, one of the sites on our route.
  5. Start walking and have fun! Watch for our emails with more information about the sites along the route.
  6. Turn in your completed packets, with donations received, to the office where your received your packet by April 12.  Your certificate will be generated on receipt of your packet.

Mahalo for your participation and for helping us to end family homelessness on Hawai’i Island.
